CAA CAP 168 (United Kingdom)
Issued by: UK Civil Aviation Authority Scope: Licensing of aerodromes. Defines requirements for aerodrome design, physical characteristics, visual aids, and operational services. Includes wind direction indicator specifications for UK-licensed aerodromes. Applies to: UK airfield operators, aerodrome licensees, helicopter landing sites at licensed locations. ICAO Annex 14 (International)
Issued by: International Civil Aviation Organization Scope: Aerodromes. Volume 1 covers aerodrome design and operations. Volume 2 covers heliports. Issued by: European Committee for Standardization (CEN) Scope: High-visibility warning clothing. Defines requirements for the fluorescent orange colour used in high-visibility materials. Issued by: European Committee for Standardization (CEN) Scope: Protective clothing against rain. Defines water resistance and water vapour resistance requirements. Referenced for waterproofing performance. Applies to: Material applications where water resistance is required. COMAH (UK)
Issued by: UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Scope: Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015. Requires operators of sites holding specified quantities of dangerous substances to demonstrate emergency preparedness and notify authorities. Wind direction indication supports emergency response requirements. Applies to: Upper-tier and lower-tier COMAH sites. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 (United States)
Issued by: US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Scope: Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals. Requires emergency response planning for facilities handling specified hazardous chemicals above threshold quantities. Wind direction data supports compliance. Fabric: 200 GSM polyurethane-coated polyester, 300 Denier textured Oxford weave. P200 specification. Two-panel stitched construction. Colour: Fluorescent orange to EN471:2003. Tensile strength: Warp 1423N, Weft 1328N (tested to BS EN ISO 1421). Tear strength: Warp 88N, Weft 87N (tested to ISO 4674-A1). Water resistance: EN343 Class 3. Mouth ring: Mild steel. Harness (Snap-On): PVC-coated galvanised steel with zinc-plated BTP snap hooks. Corrosion-resistant. Harness (Lace-On): Cable-tie attachment compatible with standard swivel cages. Origin: Manufactured in the United Kingdom.
The Falcon Premium fabric comfortably exceeds the FAA AC 150/5345-27F minimum breaking strength requirement of 150 pounds (667N) warp and filling.

United States compliance
For US specifiers, Falcon windsocks meet or exceed the relevant FAA, OSHA, EPA, and NFPA requirements. Every Falcon Premium ships with the same fabric test data and documentation as supplied to UK aviation operators. Letters of conformity citing US standards are produced on Falcon letterhead within one business day.
FAA AC 150/5345-27F — Specification for Wind Cone Assemblies
The primary US standard for windsocks at FAA-licensed airfields. Covers truncated-cone shape, fabric specification, dayglow orange colour, dimensional ratios, and rotation through 360 degrees in winds from 3 knots upward. FAR 14 CFR Part 139 — Certification of Airports
The US federal regulation governing certificated airports requires a windsock be installed and visible from the runway. Falcon supplies airports operating under Part 139 with windsocks that pair with FAA AC 150/5345-27F-compliant pole and lighting frames.
NFPA 418 — Standard for Heliports
The National Fire Protection Association standard for heliports requires a wind direction indicator at every helipad. Falcon Premium 4FT and 8FT (snap-on or lace-on) are commonly specified for hospital, corporate, and EMS helipads under NFPA 418.
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 — Process Safety Management
The OSHA standard covering processes that handle highly hazardous chemicals (PSM-covered facilities). Section 1910.119(e) requires a process hazard analysis; wind direction indication is the primary input to evacuation route selection during a release event.
