Frequently asked

Answers for specifiers, procurement and operations teams

Everything we are asked on quote calls, in tenders and during site assessments. If your question is not here, ask us directly.

Speak to a specialist
How long does a Falcon windsock last?

Under continuous exposure, the Falcon Premium Snap-On typically lasts 12 to 18 months. Service life depends on wind exposure, UV, and site conditions.

For CAA-licensed aerodromes, we recommend annual replacement regardless of visible condition. Our records show most industrial sites replace at 18 to 24 months.

Which size should I specify for a US airport or airfield?

The 7 ft Premium Snap-On is the size to specify for most US airports and airfields, and it is what we recommend unless your requisition calls for a larger indicator.

Specify the 12 ft Premium Snap-On where a large-format indicator is called for, and the 4 ft where a smaller indicator suits the position, such as helipads, industrial sites and OSHA-regulated installations.

If your requisition names a size or a specification, send it to us and we will confirm the match before you order. Non-standard sizes are built to order in the workshop.

Does the Snap-On fit swivel arms from other manufacturers?

The Snap-On attachment fits the Falcon SA-1 standard and heavy-duty swivel arms directly. It will also fit most UK and EU manufactured swivel arms with an M10 bolt-on fixing and a 25 mm pole diameter.

If you're replacing a non-Falcon windsock and want us to verify compatibility, send us a photograph of the mounting and we'll confirm before you order.

Are there any taxes or duties to pay?

No. The price shown is the final price. All US duties and import taxes are paid by Falcon before the shipment leaves, so nothing is collected on delivery. UK VAT does not apply to US orders.

What is your US delivery lead time?

Stock sizes (4 ft, 7 ft, 12 ft Premium Snap-On) leave the workshop the next business day on orders placed before 2pm UK time. US delivery is 4 to 7 business days, with all duties and import taxes paid.

Bespoke specifications and custom colors typically take 2 to 3 weeks in the workshop.

Do you provide letters of conformity for tender submissions?

Yes. We produce letters of conformity on Falcon letterhead against any referenced specification, including CAA CAP 168, ICAO Annex 14, FAA AC 150/5345-27F and site-specific DSEAR or COMAH requirements.

Tell us your tender reference and the standards cited, and we will produce the letter within 24 hours at no charge.

Can you supply a bespoke size, color or printed windsock?

Yes. Non-standard sizes, custom colors and printed logos or call signs are all produced in our workshop. Minimum order is one unit. Lead time is typically 2 to 3 weeks from artwork approval.

For tenders requiring specific dimensions or branding, contact our specification desk with the drawings and we will quote within one working day.

Do you supply the mast and swivel arm separately?

We stock the Falcon SA-1 swivel arm in standard and heavy-duty variants. Masts are not something we manufacture, but we recommend pairing the Falcon SA-1 with standard 25 mm or 50 mm galvanized steel poles available from any industrial fabricator.

If you need a complete installation, we can quote for the mast, swivel arm and windsock as a package.

What warranty applies?

Falcon Premium Snap-On windsocks carry a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. This covers stitching failure, hardware failure and material defect under normal use.

The warranty does not cover damage from extreme weather events, impact, or use outside the product's specified conditions.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We regularly ship to the European Union, Middle East, North America and Commonwealth countries. International freight is quoted at order by weight and destination.

Customs documentation including harmonized codes, certificates of origin, and letters of conformity is produced by our despatch team.

Where are Falcon windsocks manufactured?

All Falcon windsocks are cut, stitched and finished by hand in our workshop in the United Kingdom. Fabric is P200 polyurethane-coated polyester from UK and European mills. Hardware is UK and EU sourced.

We do not outsource finishing or assembly. Every windsock is inspected before despatch.
